Booking the Four Horsemen In Non-Horsemen Times: Part 2

Image result for ric flair returns superbrawl 1993   The other day, I wrote a blog about the booking of the Four Horsemen during times when the group was broken up.  I wanted elaborate on that and continue to book the group when Flair returned to WCW in early 1993.  Flair returned at SuperBrawl as a babyface in February of 1993 after Barry Windham defeated the Great Muta for the NWA World Heavyweight Title.  Flair feigned like he was going to present Windham with the Title but tried to place it around his own waist.  Windham got angry and declined an offer to rejoin the Horsemen.  Later that year, Flair took the Title from Windham and formed the Horsemen with Arn Anderson and Paul Roma.

With that being said, with the exception of when the nWo was around, a babyface Four Horsemen is generally not a good idea.  In 1993 when Flair returned, they added Paul Roma, who many consider one of if not the weakest Horsemen members ever.  If they were heel, it might have worked but that wasn't the case.  I have no ideas for babyface members at all that would even make sense.   With that being said, I wouldn't do a revived Horsemen at all.

In the Summer of 1995 after a loss to Vader, Ric Flair and Arn Anderson started having problems and blamed each other for the loss.  It led to a match for the first time ever between the two best friends, with Arn being in somewhat of a tweener role.  In the mean time, Brian Pillman started sticking his nose in this situation. Pillman helped Anderson defeat Flair.  Flair somehow recruited a reluctant Sting as a tag team partner, to of course turn on him to reform the Four Horsemen once again.  They soon added Chris Benoit to round out the stable.  This was actually one of my favorite versions of the group.  Trouble started when Pillman left WCW and they replaced him with NFL player Steve "Mongo" McMichael.

In my opinion, Mongo was the worst Horseman of all time, which I dedicated an entire blog to.  At this point, I would have either put Dean Malenko in there or added Lex Lugar again to the group. Many choices would have been significantly better than Steve McMichael.  They could have put McMichael and Kevin Greene against two other heels and did the Mongo turn like that so he wouldn't end up a Horseman.  Or, if they did face Flair and Anderson, have the turn happen after the match.  If the foursome was Flair, Anderson, Benoit, and Malenko, that seems like a good blend. Unfortunately, Benoit and Malenko weren't as comfortable on the mic as their counterparts.  The same could be said for Lugar but really all were better than Mongo.  If this was the group, Benoit and Malenko would be the tag team.  Whereas if Lugar was in the group, he would be in the mid-card role.  Lugar turning on Sting to join the Horsemen would have been cool but I think I'll stick with Malenko.

However, I wouldn't have had Hennig turn on Flair to join the nWo.  Hennig got lost in the nWo, whereas he could have taken center stage in the Four Horsemen.  Plus, once their feud with the nWo was over for the time being, they could all be heels again. So now, my Four Horsemen are Ric Flair, Curt Hennig, Chris Benoit, & Dean Makenko.  Like Flair, Hennig was both great in the ring and on the mic.  In fact, I'd even have Rick Rude be their JJ Dillon until his death in 1999.  I'd have this group fall apart when Hennig gets too cocky and tries to overthrow Flair as the leader in bids to challenge for the WCW Championship towards the end of 1998.  Flair and Hennig could settle their differences at SuperBrawl in 1999 with Flair winning.  Flair moves on to a World Championship program with Hulk Hogan and Hennig creates the West Texas Rednecks, which has to stay because I thought it was hilarious!

At this point, I would just end the Four Horsemen, as there aren't any other people to add at this point. WCW was on a downward spiral anyway.  For the record,  I would not add David Flair at all!  I think when Flair becomes a babyface again, he can make some kind of announcement regarding the end of the Four Horsemen.  These are just things I might have done with the group.  I'm open to other suggestions as well.  If you have an idea for a babyface Horsemen in 1993, please let me know.
