Steve "Mongo" McMichael: The Worst Horseman?

The Four Horsemen are the most legendary faction in all of professional wrestling.  They were innovators and if it weren't for them, there wouldn't have been an nWo, Degeneration X, or Evolution.  The most important version is probably the original, with Ric Flair, Tulley Blanchard, Arn Anderson, & Ole Anderson.  The greatest version according to many is Flair, Tulley, Arn, and Barry Windham.  There were great Horsemen, there were decent Horsemen, there were not so good Horsemen, and there were just plain awful!

The Four Horsemen, along with manager JJ Dillon and many other associates throughout the years, terrorized the wrestling industry for the better part of 14 years.  Their feuds with Dusty Rhodes, Sting, and later the nWo were absolutely legendary. They were mostly heels but sometimes babyfaces.  There was always a valet or two around and they all kept up with Flair's limousine riding-jet flying lifestyle.  Flair was always the leader and up until 1997, Arn was always "The Enforcer" and pretty much the second most important Horseman.

Sting has to be in there as well.  In yet another babyface version of the Horsemen, Sting had joined.  Sting had feuded with them for years.  In fact, Sting was the complete antithesis of what the Four Horsemen stood for.  Also, he should have seen the writing on the wall when he wanted a shot at Ric Flair's World Heavyweight Championship.  What did he think was going to happen?  Sting simply did not fit!  Sure, he had a colorful personality but his colorful face paint just made him stand out.

Of course, I have to mention Curt Hennig, if only for having the shortest stint as a Horseman, and it was all a ruse for the New World Order anyway.  It's a shame because it was a big deal for Arn Anderson to give Hennig his "spot" when he retired.  Hennig could have been a great addition to the group.  At this point in time, Flair would have given Hennig the spotlight, whereas he got lost like many others in the nWo.  On the plus side, his heel turn was pretty epic!  Also, who could forget the infamous "my spot" parody?

At the very top of my list as the worst Four Horsemen member of all time is none other than Steve "Mongo" McMichael.  As a football player, I have all the respect in the world for him, as he was a great member of the Chicago Bears, with a Super Bowl ring to prove it.  In the wrestling ring, not so much!  He just stunk up the place every night and was a charisma vacuum.  He didn't belong in the wrestling business, let alone as a member of the most elite group in all of professional wrestling.  He just didn't belong!  As good as his turn on Kevin Greene was, no one wanted to see him as a Horseman!

There were many talents in WCW in 1996 that could have taken Brian Pillman's spot.  Eddie Guerrero was available.  Dean Malenko in a heel Horsemen long before he was actually a member could have worked.  Scott Steiner could have been turned earlier to be a member.  Heck, they could have reconciled with former member Lex Lugar!  Almost anything would have been better than Steve McMichael.  He was annoying as a commentator with his little dog and even worse as a wrestler. This, in my opinion, makes Steve "Mongo" McMichael the worst Horseman of all time!  How do you feel?  Who was your worst Horseman?
